Carrier rates

Carrier rates (previously known as Carrier spread) is a feature that lets you see rates from individual carriers on specific trade corridors on the Rate movement graph found on Market benchmarks.

With carrier rates, you can plot regional-level rates from carriers on the same graph as market rates and the rates from your suppliers.

View carrier rates

You can add carrier rates to the Rate movement graph on the Market benchmarks page by following the steps below:

  1. Search for a specific trade lane
  2. Click Add comparison button to the right of the graph
  3. Click on Carrier rates and select the carriers whose rates you want to see on the graph
👍

You can also select All, which will add all available carriers to the graph at the same time.

  1. Click on Benchmark to select if you want to see the selected carrier's high, average, or low rates
📘

Note that this option is only available when displaying rates from a single carrier. These values are calculated using a similar principle to the way we calculate our market segments, with the exception that the carrier low is at the 5th percentile, while the carrier high is at the 95th percentile.

As you adjust the options, the graph will be automatically updated with the relevant data:

Carrier rates aggregation

While carrier rates are plotted on the same graph as port-to-port market benchmarks and your own supplier rates, they are always aggregated at a regional level.

For example, adding carrier rates to a Rate movement graph with the Shanghai – Rotterdam trade lane selected will display the rates charged by carriers on the China Main – North Europe Main corridor.

This means that while carrier rates are not directly comparable to port-to-port market rates, they still offer valuable insight into how much specific carriers charge for their services on a given corridor.
